Meet Michael Carey, founder and owner of Mocean Canoes. After over 30 years in the construction field, developing hundreds of apartments, condos, homes, and communities, Michael hung up his nail bags for the last time in 2019.
The idea of thermoforming an outrigger canoe had been on his mind for several years at this point and he knew now was the time to make things happen. No one had thermoformed an outrigger canoe out of plastic, and he was determined to be the first. He found a designer who could help take his idea from a drawing to an actual mold to form the canoe. After countless hours of poring over details, and sanding, sanding, and more sanding, he finally had his mold ready.
Michael poured himself into learning anything and everything about the thermoforming process and what it would take to create exactly what he was after. The COVID pandemic really took a toll on the manufacturing industry, with outages on many of the parts and pieces he needed, so he dove in and created them himself. Every piece and part that goes into a Mocean Canoe has been extensively thought out and designed per Michael's specifications. From the look, the material, the weight - all of it.
Mocean canoes are designed and built in the USA with its warehouse location in Burlington, Washington. We are just minutes off I5 and centrally located between Seattle, Washington and Vancouver BC.
